Who is supporting the supporters?

Bristol Grandparents Support Group is not just one person it is a team of people that enable those seeking help to access others, who have first hand experience of being estranged/separated from a grandchild/grandchildren.

No-one knows how it feels unless they are going through this heartbreak, no amount of training or research will give people any idea at all.

Within BGSG we have a wonderful group of grandparents who give freely of their time and empathy, to talk to members, to listen and to support. They are never too busy to take that call.

When a grandparent has plucked up the courage to ring or email, they deserve to have a quick response, we aim to respond as soon as possible. If the line is busy leave a message and we will give you a call back as quickly as we can.

What can be easy to forget is that each of those who are supporting are living with their own pain and hurt.

It is always much easier to say the right things to someone else and we don’t always practise what we preach.

Those who are giving this priceless gift of care have to ask themselves occasionally ,”What would I say to my friend who is feeling sad?”

If you have received support from someone not only through BGSG, but support in anyway, maybe we need to ask the supporters if they are OK, as well?
