Virtual Meetings

We are now heading for seven weeks of social distancing and lockdown, some days are better than others.

One day I can feel bright and breezy and full of life, the next day I wonder how long is this going to go on?

I am sure each and everyone of you are experiencing the see-saw of emotions.

Meetings

I know how important the support group meetings are all across the UK, and coming together is a lifeline too many people, it is one of my huge regrets that we have had to cancel meetings for the foreseeable future. If I am honest I can’t see meetings being able to restart for many, many months.

I have now held several virtual meet ups, as have other grandparent support groups, and I have also been able to join other groups meetings which has been lovely. Good to ‘meet’ so many new people.

Grandparents are going through all sorts of feelings at the moment, and we must keep in contact in any way we can.

Also, we have to understand that not everyone is happy to use technology, so not everyone will be able to connect with others that way.

I would urge anyone who knows of another grandparent who is estranged/alienated from their grandchildren, to give them a call.

Knowing that you are going to receive a regular call gives us all something to look forward to.

For anyone who would like to join us on a virtual meeting please do get in touch, you can email jane@bgsg.co.uk or phone our helpline: 07773258270, you would be most welcome.

It is important to say that, just as in a regular meeting, confidentiality is vital, grandparents must feel they are in a safe place to be able to express their worries and concerns.

If anyone is found to be breaching confidentiality in any way, will not be invited to future meetings.

It does take a little getting used to when entering the virtual meeting set up, and often we talk over one another, but the more we use it the better we will get at it.

So take a deep breath and give it a go.

We need each other more than ever at the moment.

My Challenge

Many people are setting themselves challenges during these strange times, so I have set myself the challenge of reading and recording the complete collection of Winnie-the-Pooh stories and poems, on my You Tube Chanel, should anyone be a Pooh fan, and would like to take a look please do, you need to excuse mistakes, as I haven’t worked out editing yet! I did think it quite funny that someone ticked the dislike icon. Remember it is just my own personal challenge, not supposed to be Oscar winning!
