Training grandparents

Once again I have received an email from someone who wants to offer ‘training’ to grandparents, yes training, to those who are estranged/alienated from their adult children and grandchildren.

It appears over the last few months more and more people are setting themselves up in businesses such as these.

I am always sceptical.

Making money from other peoples misery, is never going to cut it for me.

They talk about changing the behaviours of grandparents, of looking into their past etc.

What they don’t seem to understand is that all grandparents who find themselves in the horrible world of estrangement/alienation, spend every waking hour, thinking about what they might or might not have done to cause it. I have yet to meet a grandparent who doesn’t soul search every single day.

As parents and then grandparents we blame ourselves foe anything that goes wrong within our family, it is part of the job description!

There may well be grandparents who might want to explore this particular avenue, but be aware none of these people are doing it for the goodness of their health.

They are all running a business, and therefore need to make money.

There is nothing wrong with that in theory what is wrong when they are in my view, exploiting vulnerable grandparents.

They happily go on to our website and paste and copy all the support group addresses, and do a mail shot to them all.

BGSG does not endorse anyone who we feel are targeting this group of vulnerable grandparents.
