Superhero grandchildren.

It is true to say that when you are estranged from your grandchildren, you ask yourself questions constantly, from what did I do wrong for my child/daughter-in-law/son-in-law to hate me so much that they have made the decision to prevent any relationship with our grandchildren, to, do our grandchildren think we don’t love them anymore and have forgotten them?

We can go down the black spiral of depression and sadness.

I can’t speak for others but I do know that when I feel myself going under, I focus on the grandchildren.

In the last 8 years I have got to ‘know’ many hundreds of grandchildren, through the eyes of their grandparents, and to have been fortunate enough to be walking along side many grandparents who are suffering so much, but the memory or actions of their estranged grandchildren is what motivates them to just keep going and living in hope.

There is one grandchild in particular who I feel as though I ‘know’ really well. This person is an inspiration to us all, however many times they get knocked down by authorities who should be there to support them, ¬†get back on their feet to fight another day.

I have written at length about this young person in previous posts.

If by chance this grandchild reads this post, these words are just for you.

” Your grandparents, as you know, have done everything to make things right, it has proven to be impossible. There is not one day, one minute, one second that passes that you are not in their minds and hearts. You know that you are all following the same path, a path that will bring you all back together, it may seem a long journey just at the moment but you will reach the end, where you will be able to live the life you so crave. We have no understanding why this has happened and it is not the time to try and blame anyone, it serves no purpose. As long as you keep your grandparents in your heart you can face anything. What is important is that you make sure you look after yourself and keep healthy, that you don’t put yourself at risk in anyway. Learn as much as is offered to enable you to flourish in the future, education is an empowering thing, to give you as many choices as possible.

Live your life the way you know you should, however hard that might be, be safe in the knowledge that we are all behind you, we all care, I look forward to the day when I can shake your hand. A hero to us all.”

With a role-model such as this young person, BGSG will always live in hope.
