Let’s talk, if only we could.

BGSG try to raise the awareness of grandchildren being estranged from their grandparents, and just when you think you are reaching out to people and the subject is being discussed openly and honestly, you read something or hear a remark that puts the whole issue back 8 years.

In a perfect world, of course everyone could get around the table and talk about what the problem is and learn to respect one another and most importantly put the children first.

Most of us know that we don’t live in a perfect world.

Of course, mediation is a good thing, but what do you do when two people can’t talk to one another? Surely if they were talking in the first place maybe we wouldn’t be where we are.

I get so incensed with people who have no idea of how people are suffering in this way are so quick to judge. Non resident parents and grandparents are contemplating ending their lives and some do, over this issue. It is not just a family having a row, it is much deeper than that.

Yes, of course there is always two sides to a story, and it may well be the case that in a very small number of cases, there are valid reasons for this to happen.

It is not one size fits all, these are individual people each one of equal value, each one in total despair.

The breakdown of families is at epidemic proportions and our society is breaking down as a result, there has to be changes, the importance of family life has to be back on every agenda.

Those who lucky enough to still be in touch with their family, just remember it can and does happen to anyone.

I guarantee someone will judge you too, and will say,”you must of done something.”
