Let the sunshine in.

It is important when running a charity to regularly ask those who are seeking support whether we are reaching their needs, and what else can we do to improve what we do.

Everything needs improving at times.

Over the last few days I have had the opportunity to contact many members of BGSG and it has been good to hear what they find helpful and equally things that they perhaps are not too comfortable with.

What has been brilliant is that many grandparents have been reconciled with family members and their grandchildren. The emotion pours out, tears of joy and delight.

I do think that it is all too easy to focus on the negatives and to not celebrate the positives, often enough.

One of the reasons for that is that when grandparents are reunited they quite rightly are cautious of speaking about it, as relationships have changed and they have to protect those relationships.

There is also another reason that they are reticent to say anything,  they feel guilty.

Yes, guilty.

They tell me that they know that there are members who are still estranged and they don’t want to make them feel worse.

That is so sad.

I know from first hand experience to be able to share their joy is such a privilege, and to hear ongoing news of the new relationships that are being built, is the best thing of all.

As a group we must celebrate together, to let the sunshine pour in.

I am sad to think grandparents feel they can’t share their joy, I for one most certainly want to hear the good outcomes.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their responses and kind words.

Rest assured that the improvements you have suggested will be worked on!

Jane.
