Positive outlook.

As a support group we try to work together to give grandparents hope in what can feel like a hopeless situation.

The very nature of our ‘living bereavement’ means that we are grieving, we are low and sometimes feel life is not worth living.

As I write I am looking out on a beautiful bright blue sky, with sparkling frost on the trees and so I see there is a life to be lived just outside our windows and within ourselves.

I am constantly listening to, reading about or witnessing the most awful actions from people, actions that hurt beyond words and cut so deep to look for a way to repair is sometimes difficult to find.

For me, if I allowed myself to become swallowed up by so much negative thought, I would not be able to focus on the positives, the positive of helping grandparents find their way through the darkness into the light. And the light is there.

It is a bit like reading the headlines, they are mostly negative, sensational, looking for as much doom and gloom that they can muster. Our 24/7 news channels means sometimes there is no escape. If you read enough of it, it brings you down and you don’t notice the good stuff.

I love the fact that there is Positively Radio, created by Noel Edmonds, internet radio stations broadcasting all over the country, focusing on positive stuff.

I do know that it can be so hard, climbing back up that spiral but with help and support you can.

Working together we can and will, be able to look out of our windows and see all that is good in our lives, enabling us to move forward.

We can do nothing about the behaviour of others, but we are responsible for how we deal with it.
