All that is good in people.

When I was faced with the fact that I would not be seeing my granddaughter for the foreseeable future I was heartbroken and devastated, just like everyone else who finds themselves in this situation.

I had no idea what was to come.

As you all know by now I decided to turn the negative into a positive and started the long journey of setting up a support group for grandparents who were going through exactly the same heartbreak as my family and I were going through.

I could have continued down the empty, fruitless road of anger, pain and the blame game, but I chose not to, we all have choices.

Setting out I researched the problem, talked to professionals, and I began to see that many grandparents find it very difficult to fight their way up and out of the dark spiral we all find ourselves in.

When you are dealing with any form of conflict, both sides think they are right all the talking in the world is not going to shift either side, the more it goes on the more entrenched they become.

It is not for me to say who is right and who is wrong, in most cases in the end no-one seems to know.

I post so often that we can’t continue this sort of response for the sake of our health and our families.

So for me the support group has been my lifeline my reason to be positive and hopeful.

In nearly 8 years I have met some amazing people.

What astounds me is the people who keep appearing in my life offering support, offering to help in any way they can wanting to be involved in what we are trying to achieve. To reach out to grandparents across the UK, to raise public awareness and to be the voice of grandchildren who want a relationship with their grandparents.

I will be for ever grateful to these people for trusting me and for sharing my vision.

The concert we are hosting is a prime example of all that is good in people.

People who want to be part of it, to perform, to sing, to dance, to play and to tell stories, people giving of their precious time freely and with such enthusiasm you can’t help but get caught up in it.

This is such an exciting time for all the right reasons.

Of course the focus for me is my granddaughter, and I only wish she could be there to see how amazing it will be.

So if you are reading this and you are not in a good place, please think hard about how you can turn this negative into a positive, if I can so can you.

Set up a group in your area, I will help you and come and see you to get you started, it is not difficult and I absolutely guarantee that you will get so much out of it and it gives you a reason to be positive.
