Find the Joy

The title of this blog will seem to some of you who are in the depths of despair completely unbelievable.

When every thought you have is of sadness and isolation, it is so easy to think you have nothing to be joyous about.

12 years ago I thought the same thing, but I decided that I owed it to my granddaughter to rise above those feelings of desolation, if I sank below the black waves, what was my life all about?

Everyones life is different, the way we are now, is after the knocks and bruises we have all encountered along our journey. It is though knocks and bruises that gives us strength to push through.

We all have a choice.

We can allow ourselves to sink or we can swim.

We need to put the joy back in our lives, joy will be different to each individual.

Accept that you will have bad days that is important, but in the knowledge that time does not last forever, and you will get past it.

When our emotions are running high, it feels as though we are out of control, so we must try and get back control, by being in control we can be the driver not the passenger.

Joy is something that is difficult to define, but it is a feeling deep down in your soul.

Sometimes I catch myself smiling as I am just walking along the road, and I wonder why? It may be that the scent of the roses in the rain have caused that almost involuntary reaction, but I like the way it feels. It is a personal moment of peace.

If you are thinking that you have to do something drastic in your life to feel joy, you couldn’t be further from the truth.

Joy is about your well-being, that feeling of unexpected release.

Some of you will feel pleased when you perhaps are able to buy that thing you have been saving up for, for so long, but I don’t believe that it is material things that give as joy.

Joy is a feeling of contentment, and it may not last all day, but just for those few magical moments it is wonderful.

The feeling of joy is hard to describe, as I have said it will be different for everyone, but you know when you truly experience it.

So when you are feeling as though you will never feel joy again, you have to be pro-active, it wont just come knocking on the door.

Maybe there is something that you have always wanted to do, but never have, now is the time to do it. Accomplishing a long held dream is joyous.

Be inspired, you can’t help but be inspired if you spend time in the natural world, how does nature just carry on regardless of everything going on in our own lives, the tide will always come in and go out, the trees will always burst into life in Spring, the new lambs will always be frolicking in the field, there is a serenity in nature that you can’t find anywhere else.

Focus on having fun, and fun is in the here and now.

Again, accept that you sometimes feel anything but joy, tell yourself that it is OK to cry.

If we are looking for joy to come from someone else it wont, joy is within each and everyone of us, it starts by accepting us for what and who we are. We need to treat ourselves with care and compassion, and to be kind to ourselves, and to self-protect.

Think about the word joy, if you think about it enough you will feel it, when you are in uncontrollable laughter with a friend that is joy. Sometimes just sitting and listening is also joyous. Try saying ‘good morning ‘to everyone you pass when you are out, receiving a smile is also joyous, not only to you but to the person you have spoken to.

Whatever you are doing find that spark that causes you joy.
