Dying Alone.

Today the health secretary will be speaking today about the catastrophic fact of elderly people dying alone.

He will say that there are 3,000 what is called, ‘lonely funerals’ every year where councils bury the dead as there is apparently no family .

As a society are we saying that actually people have no family or friends, or is there something else contributing to this appalling situation?

There is no doubt that family and its importance has been eroded, family breakdown is now an accepted part of our lives.

Grandparents are alienated from their own children and grandchildren, you only have to read comments from family members on social media and those horrible words toxic ect, reappear over and over again.

Families are the bedrock of our society, the very foundations to build a future.

Everyone needs to look to themselves and to ask themselves what damage is being created, not to blame one or the other, but to make things right. To regain respect for one another.

We will all be an ‘elderly’ person eventually, do you want to face your latter years alone?

No of course not, no-one does, and we need human interaction, we need to know we are loved, we need each other.

This is an epidemic that must stop now, today.

Life is short and it is how we live our lives that count.

Time to put your differences to one side, to reach out to that family member, to pick up the phone.

You may not get on very well, but do you want your Mum or Dad to die alone?
