Dear Alienated child/grandchild

Dear …………….,

The day I became a parent/grandparent was the proudest day of my life.

Here I was with this precious person in my arms, an instant connection, just like falling in love, what a wonderful time we were going to have together.

Sometimes things go horrendously wrong.

If you are a child/grandchild who has experienced alienation and estrangement, only you know how that makes you feel.

As a parent/grandparent I can tell you that it rips us apart, the pain of being apart is with us constantly. Not being able to tell you how much you are loved, how much you are missed is almost to difficult to endure.

We have to endure though, because there is always hope. Hope that one day you will reach out to us.

Never believe that we stopped caring and loving you, we never did, we are always ready, the door is always open for you.

We don’t have to talk about things that have gone before, unless you want to.

Above all else remember you are valued, you are loved and you have a right to be in both your parents/grandparents lives.

Sometimes the grown ups don’t put you first, they allow their ‘conflict’ to cloud the decisions they make, and it is you who suffer.

There are millions of children/grandchildren going through this heartbreak, and they are unable to make their voices heard.

As parents/grandparents it is up to us to be your voice, for us all to come together and make it right for you.

You are not alone, we are all here to support you.

Jane.
