Children needing antidepressants.

Day after day recently there has been one report after another, saying that we have children who are so depressed that they are taking antidepressants.

As a society we need to sit up and take notice.

The government constantly bangs on about all policies being family focussed, they said they were spending more on children’s  mental health, the experts say nothing has changed.

Surely we should be asking the question why, are our children so unhappy?

There is no doubt that there are massive pressures on our young people, they face testing at a very young age, they are constantly told they should look a certain way, social media bullying is rife, is it any wonder that their self-esteem is at rock bottom.

Should we not also be looking into the effect of family breakdown on our children?

I am all for moving with the times, and I know that everything has changed, but I still feel so strongly that the importance of a stable and happy family is vital.

Families are no longer valued.

That isn’t to say that a couple should stay together if things go wrong, but it is to say that without question the children must be put first. They need to know that mum and dad are still there for them, that both their parents love them.

When we have children we have a life long responsibility to them.

Children are suffering so badly that they have to turn to medication, what does that say about our society?
