Be kind to yourself.

I wrote today  on our Face Book page about the first step of healing is to be kind to ourselves. It is probably the last thing on our minds when we are facing the grief of being apart from our children/grandchildren.

We all know how to show kindness to our friends but we need to treat ourselves to the same kindness.

How do you react to a friend who is hurting and going through difficult times?

Maybe you give them a hug, put the kettle on, tell them it’s going to be ok and above all we focus on them, we give them our undivided attention.

We need to be attentive to ourselves and our needs as well.

As human beings life has its ups and downs, just when you think everything is OK, something comes and bats you around the ear, that’s how we learn to be resilient.

I suspect everyone you meet today is struggling with something, no one is exempt.

Whatever has happened to make us feel hurt, it is important to be able to talk about it, with someone we trust.

I have written before about forgiveness, and I know that many reading this will be saying they will never forgive those who have hurt them so badly, but forgiveness isn’t really about forgiving others, forgiveness actually allows us to find peace.

We can spend the rest of our lives revisiting the actions of others, but the only people to suffer is ourselves.

We can get eaten up with the utter despair of it all or we can channel those thoughts in a different direction.

Your life being well lived is the best revenge of all.

By continuing to focus on our scars, which actually is giving the power back to those who have hurt us, we need to try and take note of all the good things in our lives, those that do love us,the beauty of nature, we need to be grateful for what we do have, and focus on kindness.

We are wounded but we can heal.
