A few days ago we watched in our millions as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married, and I don’t think anyone will forget for some considerable time the Most Revered Michael Curry’s sermon, and today I have just watched the very moving service of remembrance in Manchester both had the same message.
The power of love.
As Michael Curry said, The late Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. once said and I quote: “We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we discover that, we will be able to make of this old world a new world, for love is the only way.”
And at todays service in Manchester, after the most horrendous attack 12 months ago, the message was love.
All we ever want and need is to be loved.
To be loved by our parents, or partners, our children, our family and friends, it is the most basic need for us all.
It may be you need love at a time in your life when there is joy and happiness, or you may need love at the very worst time of your life, love is actually around us all the time, sometimes we just don’t notice.
It seems so simple, but of course sometimes we have to work extra hard to give or receive love.
It is so easy when someone treats us badly to become negative and despondent but it is just at times like this that we have to dig deep, to find that love.
I know of many people who have been treated badly by their own family members and yet they will say, ” But I still love them.”
That is the power of love.
Even though we may have suffered we have to find the redemptive power of love.
The love shown by the emergency services, the hospital staff , the volunteers, the people who just wanted to help in the aftermath of Manchester is immeasurable, it shows how good will always win over evil.
Love is the answer.
It is a good excuse to perhaps listen to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsxtImDVMig
