A New Era For Bristol Grandparents Support Group

2014 has been a really busy year for the group, major changes and developments have been planned and are beginning to come to fruition.

As a result of meeting Esther Rantzen and the work we did together for The One Show, highlighting the issue of grandchildren being denied contact with their grandparents due to family breakdown, we made the decision to become a registered charity.

We have had enormous support from so many people , we will be eternally grateful for their expertise and support.

It has enabled us to focus on the main aims and objectives of BGSG, and how we take the charity forward.

We will aim:

  • To provide support.
  • To provide information.
  • To promote family well-being.
  • To provide support to self help groups.
  • We will achieve this,
  • By raising awareness.
  • By providing booklets, posters, leaflets for information.
  • By giving information on the phone and website.
  • By giving support across the UK to local groups.

The outcomes will benefit, Grandparents and as a result grandchildren in maintaining a relationship with the wider family.

Although we are Bristol based we are contacted by grandparents all over the UK and further afield, and that is one of our aims to make sure that we are accessible to everyone wherever they are. It is madepossible now the powers of social media and Skype. The world has become very small place.

Part of the transition has been the designing and building of our new website so that it is now available on all platforms of modern technology, our thanks go to our designer/web devloper with a crisp, easy to navigate new look.

Becoming a registered charity means that we also have to have an annual income of £5 thousand pounds, and so we will be doing a great deal of fund raising.

To that end we have designed our own greetings cards, badges and car stickers.

A garden party is planned where we will be selling cream teas, plants, cakes and holding a raffle.

Future plans will include a music concert hopefully in November and in 2015 a narration of a story set to music.

Details to follow.

You will also notice a difference in my blogs, the aim has not changed it is where you will find all that is going on in BGSG and my usual musings, just on a different format. Older posts can still be found at the old blog

We hope you all find the information and support available on the website you are looking for and an easy way of contacting us.
