Thank you to everyone who attended our support group meeting on Friday, as always it was good to catch up with ‘old’ friends and to welcome new faces.

It never ceases to amaze me the courage that new members show, they arrive at a house they don’t know, to meet people they don’t know and share their own personal grief to one another.

When I shake those hands for the first time, I feel the anxiety and nervousness, within a very short time I can see people gradually begin to feel that it’s ok. They are in a safe environment and everyone seems to be quite friendly!

For those of you who are not able to get to meetings, people arrive, Marc or I gather them in, and make them a cuppa and introduce them to others. I will then just fill everyone in with what has been going on over the last two months and news of forthcoming events ect.

Marc then talks about the financial stuff.

Then it is a free for all, and when the most important things happens.

People talk, they support, they offer a listening empathetic ear, they hold a hand, they care.

Crucially and this is essential in any support group meeting, they eat cake.

The meetings tend to end when they end, and those new members who had arrived a few hours before trembling, leave with a renewed confidence and with a smile on their face.

You see it is not difficult.

All that is required is to be there.

Have a lovely day today, whatever you are up to, it’s a new day.
