I am often asked for ideas and strategies to help as we try and move forward. I think we have to respect our emotions and accept them, we can’t always put a positive slant on everything, sometimes we need some quiet time to just feel what we need to feel and to accept that this is just a moment in time and that hopefully by helping ourselves the next moment will be better. We will get stronger day by day, with help from others.

Start with short term goals and then when you feel ready look longer term.

S.M.A.R.T targets

1: Do something that helps with stress relief. Yoga, meditation , t’aichi. visualisation. Go to the library or search online for classes in your area.

2: Plan a daily walk, how long it will be, where you will go. Stopping of for a coffee always helps! Whilst walking look around you, listen to the birds, the rustle of leaves, the crunch of grass under your feet.

3: Plan a trip to the cinema.

4: Phone that friend that you haven’t spoken to for a long time. Arrange to meet up, make a date then and there.

5: Take up a new skill, maybe you have always wanted to draw or paint, now it the time to seek out that art class. Learn to play a musical instrument.

6: When you are ready, volunteer to do something that helps other people. Being able to make a difference to someone else is very powerful, to smile, to speak to someone who may not have spoken to anyone for a week, to just offer your hand to someone is a two way action. I guarantee that your well-being will benefit.
