This Sunday is Father’s Day and once again there will be thousands,if not more, of Dad’s who won’t be having crumbs in the bed from breakfast having been brought to him, they won’t receive that hand made card, made with love from their children.

Dad’s who will sit alone wondering what their children are doing, trying to make sense of this senseless situation.

Some Dads will carry on regardless, putting a brave face on the day, pretending that they are OK.

They are not OK.

Their hearts are empty, forever asking, ‘what ever happened for things to have got to this stage?’

It is true that Father’s Day and Mother’s Day have become a money making exercise but it is still a special day.

It is special for children as well.

When I was working I would help the children with the making of those cards, the cards that meant so much to the giver as well as the receiver. Far too much glitter and glue! But a small gesture that meant so much.

For those Dads who won’t feel their child’s arms around them on Sunday, I know you are in their hearts, you are still and always will be their Dad. Your blood is still running through their veins. I know that they are thinking of you, as they do everyday. It is just to difficult for them at the moment.

Fathers Day.

It is just another Sunday, nothing special,

But it is special, a day to celebrate Dads,

A time for us to acknowledge our love for them,

Their day, a moment to say thanks and to hold them close.

Not all Dads will be sharing their special moment again this year,

How many more years will they have to endure this emptiness,

Children, who need both parents in their lives, to say “I love you.”

Hold on to your memories, close your eyes and remember,

Your children have not forgotten you, they never will.

They are holding you close, listening to your heartbeat,

They can see you, no-one can ever take that away.

You are their Dad, their special person, now and forever.
